The Acts 29 covenant has been in progress since February 29, 2010. Ther are approximately 40 people participating. As part of this covenant, we have been fasting and praying in unity. Our prayers have been following the format found in the book, "Acts 29: Fifty days of prayer to invite the Holy Spirit"
On March 13 we had an Acts 29 gathering to encourage each other and share what the Lord has been revealing to us. We broke out into 3 small groups. Each group was asked to discuss where each member is in her/his Acts 29 study and to share any visions and thoughts.
Group 1 (Pam Reed, Betty Hume, and Carolyn Rodgers) had the following visions/revelations and thoughts:
- Vision of seeing children playing in our open field. The Holy Spirit is leading us to utilize the vacant field for children as a way to bring families to our church home.
- Paved walking path circling the perimeter of the vacant field for families and individuals to have a safe place in which to walk and exercise. This could also serve as a prayer walk for people with prayer stations and benches along the way with helpful suggestions/scriptures upon which to meditate.
- Negative thoughts have interfered with and held back progress. It was suggested that instead of responding to any new ideas with negative thoughts, that we should pray for the Holy Spirit to enter our hearts and minds and guide us to see the value and positive good that can be accomplished.
- Evangelism is not natural to them, but through the Holy Spirit it will happen.
Group 2 (David Charlton, Glenda Garraway and Betty Hume) had the following visions/revelations and thoughts:
- We need the Holy Spirit for unity. We have a part to play for that to happen. We all need to pray that the Lord will develop within each of us an intense desire to have unity.
- Pray the Lord will raise up within our church people who act as a Philip (Acts 8:1-40), Ananias (Acts 9:10-18) and Barnabas (Acts 9:26-30)
- We need to be bold, willing to take risks and preach the good news wherever and whenever we can.
- The group also indicated that when we enter the sanctuary we need to really worship the Lord during worship service. We need to be less critical of the music or how something is said. if we do these things people will come and we will see revival come to GGUMC.
Group 3 (John Hanel, Eugenia Long and Nancy Adams) had the following visions/revelations and thoughts:
- Discussed what corporate prayer does. We need to pray about any situation, for it to change.
- We need to pray for us to change as the Holy Spirit leads us. We must have a willingness to change.
- We need to pray for our government to change and to look at ourselves, what we can do to help it change.
- Jesus Christ wants us to pray for what we need and to be bathed in the Holy Spirit.
- To pray through the Scriptures and to ask for Scripture to lead us in how we should pray is a powerful way to pray.
When we go to the Lord in prayer we should ask, “Lord show me what you want me to learn and do.” There are only 28 chapters in Acts. The 29th chapter of Acts does not exist because we are still living and writing it. Join us in corporate prayer as we seek to live out Acts 29 for God's glory.
The Acts 29 covenant will end on April 7, 2010. There will be a final next Acts 29 gathering is scheduled for April 10, 2010 at 10:30AM. |
