From the Scoutmaster of Troop 73.

I know some of you are asking what the Scouts are up to. Where are the Scouts? Why don’t we see them in church? Well, I hope to answer some of those questions.

As you know from Scout Sunday back in January, The Boy Scouts are having a year long 100th anniversary celebration. About two weeks after that, the scouts went on their 2nd camping trip to Olustee, FL to see the re-enactment of the Civil War Battle that happened there over 160 years ago. The temperatures in the morning dipped into the low 30’s and on Sunday morning (Feb. 14, 2010) it was reported to be 28 degrees in the camp area. The scouts learned to cook camp style and had “Knight’s in Shining Armor” for dinner and then had “Omelets in a Bag” for breakfast. The scouts also endured a 10 mile round trip hike to and from the Battlefield area. We had fun but also learned a lot.

Recently, the scouts have been working in the field at the church getting it ready for the Easter Sunrise Service on April 4th by clearing the field so we can see the view of the river. The scouts will also be cleaning up the ground of the trash to help the church look appealing to other visitors to the church. The scouts also meet at the church every Saturday, unless the scouts are at an activity, at 4pm until 5:30 pm.

The Scouts would like to do more but we need more boys 11 to 17 years of age and more Adult Volunteers. The more trained adults, the more the scouts can do. We are almost to the level where we can split the troop into 2 patrols and allow the boys some friendly competition. Also we are looking for 5 boys 1st grade to 3rd grade and adults to form a Cub Scout Pack and 5 boys 4th and 5th grade for a Webloes Den. Any adult female 21 years or older interested in scouting? Any girls, or boys, 14 years old to 20 years old interested in scouting? If so, Please contact Patrick Adams about a Venturing Crew (patrol). We are just getting information at this time to see if we have enough interest to start this part of scouting. We would like to expand the Scouting Program at Glynlea Grace so more can be involved if possible.
